Pets As Therapy Dog

We are so lucky to have Peggy the Therapy Dog join us in school each week!  Peggy is a trained therapy dog who has been a regular visitor to Freegrounds for a couple of years now, and she loves coming to visit the children and hear them read to her. Peggy is joined by her wonderful owner, Guy and, every week, they spend the afternoon at our school listening to small groups of children read out loud along with the school librarian – Mrs Whettingsteel.

Peggy quite often lies down and enjoys a bit of a sleep whilst the children get a chance to give her a cuddle and sometimes offer her a tasty treat!

Peggy helps the children feel more confident in their reading, and she presents as a quiet presence for the children, acting as a source of comfort and a tool for building trust and improving communication which helps to develop overall emotional and social wellbeing.
