Inclusion

"Pupils love to learn in this caring and inclusive school. They enjoy coming to school and are rarely absent. Pupils are happy, feel safe and say that all adults are kind." (Ofsted report, 2023)

At Freegrounds Junior School, we welcome everybody into our friendly school community. We believe in the proverb that 'it takes a village to raise a child' and this wonderful saying captures how an entire community of people must interact with children for them to experience and grow in a safe and healthy environment.

Our children are incredible. As a school, we follow the Empowerment Approach where our ambition is to create an inclusive environment where children are supported to become confident, prosocial members of our school community. Freegrounds Junior School is a school where we value a child's character development as much as their academic achievement. We strive to provide every child with the best possible learning experience - every single day. Our inclusive school needs to be a place where every member feels safe, content and able to learn; as such, our approach ensures that whilst we meet the needs of the most vulnerable, those of the group also holds paramount importance.

Our ethos is that every pupil should be supported to achieve academic, emotional, social and physical developmental success. Our school is committed to removing the barriers to learning and engagement that children may encounter, whether that be a short or long term area of difficulty. We are fully committed to ensuring that every child who comes to our school leaves here at the end of Year 6 as a confident, curious and resilient learner who is 'secondary-ready'.

At Freegrounds Junior School our aims are:

  • All children should be valued regardless of their abilities or difficulties
  • A focus on inclusive practice and removing barriers to learning
  • All children are entitled to a broad and balanced curriculum which is differentiated to meet individual needs
  • All teachers are teachers of children with SEND
  • All children can be enabled to fulfil their potential through effective teaching and learning, supporting and encouraging.
