Home Learning – How Green is this Place?

Year 3 Home Learning- ‘How Green is this Place?’

Next half term Year Three will be starting their new topic- ‘How Green is this Place?’ This is a geography led topic, which explores the local area of Hedge End and the impact humans have on the environment. For home learning, we have set a range of learning activities which your child should complete at home in order to help them with their understanding of the environment and issues such as pollution and rubbish. Children can complete as many tasks as they wish to but we do recommend at least 2. For each task completed, each child will earn some time towards whole class reward time.

Learning Activity Time earned Parent Initials once completed
1 Write a definition of the word pollution and give examples of pollution in Hedge End and on a global scale.   10 seconds
2 Independently, write a diary entry titled ‘A day in the life of a plastic bag’ or ‘A day in the life of a plastic bottle’. 20 seconds
3     Use your creativity skills to produce an art project using recycled materials.     30 seconds
4     Make a poster to encourage people to reuse, reduce or recycle their waste. This could be done in a pair or independently. 20 seconds
5 Go for a walk and tally the types of rubbish that you see on your walk. Create a tally chart or bar graph of what you find. Have 3 questions ready to pose to your classmates about your findings. 25 seconds
6 Make a sketch of a built-up area and a green place for comparison. 15 seconds

Home learning activities will be shared during dedicated sharing time on Thursday 19th March so must be in school by this date. Please bring this sheet back to school so that your teacher and peers can leave you feedback below.
